The HISTORY of NCFM
The closure of Sherman Mine affected a lot of families in 1989 ~ the Dessureault’s included.
After the closure, Larry & Reina Dessureault decided to open a general store featuring products they knew & loved ~ fishing, tools and crafts.
The store opened in September 1989 and was called the North Cobalt Flea Market. Many customers ask, “Why is it called a Flea Market, there are no used products?” Simply, in the late 80’s the only way to be open on Sundays was designating it as a ''flea market''.
For 12 years Larry & Reina raised four children and built a successful business at the same time. The North Cobalt Flea Market was open 7 days a week, underwent three expansions, and became a destination for locals and visitors to the area. In 2001, the Dessureault’s sold the store to spend more time with their family and enjoying their hobbies.
Eight years later, in 2009, the store was for sale and the Dessureault’s wanted it back in the family. It was their son Marc who would carry on the family tradition.
The North Cobalt Flea Market now features 12 000 square feet of merchandise ~ including close-out deals and surplus merchandise. To keep their customers interested & the store jam-packed with new and exciting products, the Dessureault’s not only shop in North America, but overseas as well. This allows for great prices and a different variety of items for their valued customers
