The PharmaSmart 2000 is a customer service that speaks to our clients' increasing need to keep track of their blood pressure. High Blood Pressure usually has no symptoms. It is one of the leading causes of heart attacks and strokes yet high blood pressure can be managed before there is a significant health problem. That is why we have provided the Blood Pressure Kiosk, the latest technology in blood pressure monitoring for our customers.
Blood pressure medication can help reduce blood pressure and, as BP prescriptions are taken, the regular monitoring of the numbers is a vital part of the medical care plan so we encourage our clients to use the PS2000. Blood pressure is expressed as two separate numbers; systolic, the top or first number, measures the pressure in our veins as the blood is pumped through them by the heart and diastolic, the bottom or second number which measures the pressure when the heart is at rest. For example, a blood pressure measurement of 120/80 mmHg (millimeters of mercury) is expressed verbally as "120 over 80." Normal blood pressure is less than 120 mmHg systolic and less than 80 mmHg diastolic.
These numbers give our customers immediate information about how their blood pressure medication is affecting them and the pharmacist is right there to answer any questions or concerns that come up.
Not only is it possible to know one's blood pressure immediately, without having to wait for a doctor's appointment, it is also a function of the Blood Pressure Kiosk to help keep track of blood pressure over the long term.
This Card”, provided to our patients free of charge, stores the last 30 blood pressure and pulse results along with the date taken. The PS2000 will automatically print out 10 the most recent blood pressure readings, dates taken and an average of the readings. Sharing these results with both Pharmacist and Family Physician will aid them in providing targeted personal care, modify medications where indicated and help keep people healthy for the long term.
